My academic background is in sculpture. My professional career was as a painter in oils and watercolor until I discovered linocut printing by serendipity. After five years of exploring the process, I turned my work entirely over to printmaking. The carving and step-by-step process of composing a print suits my personality. The combination of planning and accident/chance makes each step of every print a discovery.
I am almost entirely self taught in printmaking. Linocut printing chose me as much as I chose it. I seem have a relationship with the methodical process and materials that brings all of my explorations as an artist together into my own, unique voice in paper and ink. I think in rhythm. I think in patterns. I think in layers of color that create a sense of mood and of place which lives in my heart.
I have more than 40 years of solo and group exhibitions behind me and I am represented currently by a healthy range of brick and mortar art galleries. I am graced with many collectors of my prints in more than a dozen countries spanning the globe. My work has been singled out for recognition and awards many times.
