What I find captivating about printmaking is the combination of utilising the primal, creative hand/eye/brain combination coupled with the challenge of technical problem solving. I like utilising methods that are gestural and difficult to control and juxtaposing them with more controlled mark-making. I am currently enjoying making prints of cityscapes (especially London) and landscapes.
I currently make lino prints by using traditional cutting techniques and also etching the linoleum. I usually create multiple blocks using these techniques and layer them to build an image. I use oil-based inks in order to obtain vibrant colour combinations, but also enjoy using extender in the ink to make transparent colours which I can overlay to create more complex colour combinations.
